You are welcome to drop in for a casual, collaborative South Side Linux User Group (LUG) gathering to explore open source culture and practical tools to exercise digital agency. A LUG is a community group for self-directed + collaborative study/learning/thinking related to open-source software/systems (those whose source code can be viewed, modified, and distributed freely). This includes not only technical learning/troubleshooting/experimenting/commiserating/encouraging, but also thinking about open source culture and tools to navigate AI/digital sovereignty/data use + privacy and their rising relevance in art/journalism/literature/science/politics + other domains.
The South Side LUG is free and open to the community. Bring questions, ideas, news articles, tools, critiques, panic, calm, curiosity, experiments, projects, and/or a problem to hack on/discuss. For example, we may chat about the merits and methods of trapping and taming a functional AI model locally to protect sensitive data, or how geopolitical sanctions are pushing European nations toward open-source alternatives to big tech in the public sector. Whether you are deep into tech, just starting out, involved in adjacent activities, or completely new and a bit curious -> you are welcome. Come hang out!
