Next up in the Wise Man Weekends series is HIGH SCHOOL (1968), Frederick Wiseman’s second documentary, which observes the goings-on at a public high school in Philadelphia. Once again, Wiseman’s interest lies not just in the institution but also in what its operations reveal about society at large. Here, the interactions between students, teachers, and administrators become a means of examining authority, conformity, and the expectations imposed upon young people, both within the classroom and beyond it.
At each screening a community member with experience or expertise relevant to the documentary will be present for a post-screening discussion.
